Following the Angus Primary Schools relay event at Arbroath High School, at which Andover pupils from P6 and P7 performed admirably against very good opposition, Caitlyn Tough qualified for a team of the six fastest girls to represent the authority at a national event. On Saturday (5th June) Caitlyn travelled to Grangemouth where her team made it through to the final and finished a fantastic third, having competed against teams from throughout Scotland. Andover would like to congratulate Caitlyn on her achievement and wish her many similar successes for the future. |

The Poppies project came about due to the reading of an article discussing the growing phenomena of empty shops in British towns due to the recession.
Mr A. Smith, visiting art specialist at Masiondieu, considered the possibility of putting a display of children’s art work in one of the empty shop fronts. She approached Sarah Kettles, manager of the Brechin Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) asking if there was a suitable shop. A few meetings and phone calls later, it was agreed that Poppies, a former florists on the corner of the High street would be ideal for the project.
Over a number of sessions this term, Mr Smith and Ms F. Hyslop (Andover's visiting art teacher) worked with the children of P4 to P7 classes to produce pieces of art work around the theme of flowers. The children experimented and gained knowledge of working in a variety of media - drawing, colouring, oil pastel work, paper collage, screen printing, press printing, felting, wire and tissue sculpture.
The work was then taken to the shop where Alex spent time putting up coloured fabric and paper on screens inside the shop windows in readiness for displaying the work. The children’s work was grouped in relation to colour, theme and technique, then displayed across five windows in the shop. Two children from each school helped to put up the displays. The press from 3 local papers visited to take pictures of the children at work.
It is anticipated that the display will be in the shop for the summer term. |

Andover’s Cross Country team competed in the annual race around Forfar’s Lochside Park. A great effort was put in by all who took on the mile long course, running alongside pupils from almost all the other Angus schools. Notable were the following places on the day: fastest P6 boy – Lewis Hill (12th); fastest P6/7 girl – Shannon Young (28th); fastest P7 boy – Calum Anderson (27th). Andover pupils can enter a Brechin cluster cross country race taking place in the town on Wednesday 28th April, starting at Brechin High school.
Mr Troon works very hard with the pupils in the Uper school and commented at the excellent behaviour of Andover pupils! Well done kids - Mrs Kennedy! |

Quality Circle Time model is a whole approach to setting up and maintaining a positive management system to:
- Promote positive relationships
- Create a caring and respectful ethos
- Help children develop their self-esteem and self-confidence
- Provide efficient and effective systems and support for all staff
- Create great lunchtimes and playtimes
- Nurture the creativity in all people in school
- Promote social and emotional development of all children
At the moment we are running Circletimes in the classes to raise awareness of possible issues that could arise in the playground. The children are encouraged to find their own solutions to problems through discussion, peer support and team building activities.
Staff in Andover regularly engage in circle time to promote respectful behaviour.
Mrs McKenzie is working with all classes in Andover to promote respectful behaviour in the playground! |
